What do you do when you have a bunch of new items you want to add to your boutique, but don’t have anyone to take those model shots for you? We all know the struggle - which is why we compiled a little guide on how to take stunning photos without a photographer!
Let’s start with the setting.
Take a look around your home and try to find the most spacious and naturally well-lit area to set up your photoshoot session. Whether it’s outdoors or indoors, just make sure that it’s fairly neutral and with minimal clutter.
Don’t want to show off your space? Find a blank wall or hang up a plain sheet to use as a makeshift background.
Set up your camera.
It can be a little challenging to find the perfect spot to set up your phone or camera, but once you do, you won’t have to move it for the rest of your shoot! Play around with a few different angles until you find one that works best for you. Don’t worry if you don’t have a tripod, you can use books and furniture to prop up your phone or camera.
Try to get around 4 quality photos for each clothing item. Spin around, experiment with different angles and even try close up shots if the item has any accents or detailing. The main goal is to show off every aspect of the product for potential buyers to see.
Get snapping!
We recommend playing around with your camera timer settings. Most phones and cameras have the ability to play around with timeframes and the number of photos taken each countdown.
Alternatively, if your device can take great videos, you can press record and pull your favorite still images from your video when you finish.
Don’t forget - all images must be taken in portrait, not landscape.
Edit your images.
Just a few adjustments will go a long way! Don’t oversaturate your photos or apply filters that change the appearance of the product itself. We suggest using apps like Prequel or VSCO to make minor and professional-looking adjustments to polish up your images.
